Barter Rock
Sail to Barter Rock (1–3 passages away)1 Track down Captain Sturn's slaver sloop at Barter Rock.
Barter Rock is a barren stone spire ringed with iron mooring staples where no honest ship ever docks. A heavy gray sloop—the Patience—lies moored to the rock with her cargo hatches barred from the outside, while an armed gunboat patrols nearby. Whenever the wind drops, you can hear dozens of captives murmuring inside her hold.

Forty Freed Captives
Right away2Your crew pry the iron bars off the cargo hatches, releasing forty kidnapped workers—cutlers, weavers, and a young apprentice with an unhealed factory brand. While Sturn stands shackled to his own mast, an old weaver steps up to you. "The Free Captains' court will give this slaver a polite trial and a warm meal first. We have a rope and a yardarm right here."
- Keep Sturn alive for trial at the Free Captains' court as the bounty demands. The old weaver studies your face, then nods and steps back. Crewmen from among the forty freed captives man the captured sloop themselves and sail in your wake toward port.
- [Marine] Have crewmate stand guard over Sturn to keep the crowd back during the voyage.Crew: Marinecrewmate posts up in front of the mast with a hand on their weapon, ending all talk of a lynching. Sturn's Proposal
Right away3In his well-appointed cabin, Halvard Sturn pours two cups of wine before you even sit down. "You're no buyer, Captain—buyers look at the cargo hatches, and you looked at my gun emplacements. Listen closely: I can pay you more silver tonight than the Articles court offers if you sail away and forget you saw me. Or stay until dawn and help me rob the noble House yacht coming to buy these captives—she's carrying a full strongbox of silver."
- Accept Sturn's bribe to sail away and look the other way.He counts out half the bribe in silver on the table. "My paymaster will toss you the second half once your skiff is clear of my hull. I'm a careful man." He politely escorts you back to the ladder.+60 silver
- Agree to wait until dawn to ambush the noble buyer's yacht.Sturn beams and opens a second bottle of wine. You return to your ship for the night, keeping your cannons loaded and your crew on high alert.
- Throw the wine in Sturn's face, fight your way back to your skiff, and signal your ship to attack.Sturn bolts out the cabin door before your blade clears its scabbard. Taking a glancing club blow from a guard, you dive over the rail into your skiff as your ship charges in to engage his gunboat.15 damage to a random crewmateBattle: Sky pirates · Close rangeIf you win:+20 silver
The Articles Court
At a port4 Deliver Captain Sturn alive to the Free Captains' court.
Three senior captains sit behind a trestle table in a sail loft with the Free Captains' Articles nailed to the wall behind them. Forty freed captives line the room as the presiding captain reads out the slaving charges against Sturn, then looks to you. "Delivered alive as posted. The court pays your full bounty—does the captain who took him have anything to add to the record?"
- Collect the bounty payment and let the trial proceed. The clerk counts out your full bounty in silver. The trial takes a single afternoon, and the hanging verdict surprises no one.+1 The Free Captains standingThe questline ends here.

- Testify that noble House Lorimer sent a yacht to Barter Rock to buy Sturn's captives. As the clerk enters House Lorimer's name into the official court record, all three judges smile grimly—a noble house caught buying slaves in the Reaches can be heavily fined on its trade ships. They pay your full bounty plus an informer's share of the upcoming seizures.+30 silver+1 The Free Captains standing−1 The Crown standingThe questline ends here.
A Coat and a Nameboard
Right away5With Sturn dead and the sloop's hatches finally open to the sky, the forty freed workers prepare to depart. The old weaver holds out the sloop's nameboard. "The Free Captains' court will pay you half the bounty for proof of his death. Or you can strip the cannons and bolts from his sloop right now and let the bounty poster rot."

The Runaway in the Skiff
Right away6Your skiff is halfway back to your ship when a twelve-year-old boy slides down the sloop's mooring chain and drops ten feet into your boat, his wrist bleeding from a pried-open iron staple. At the sloop's rail behind you, Sturn's paymaster freezes with the second bag of bribe silver in his hand, staring at the boy.
- Row back, hand the runaway boy over to the slavers, and collect the rest of your bribe. The paymaster tosses you the second bag of silver as his guards haul the silent boy back up the ladder, leaving you to invent a story for the Free havens.+70 silver−1 The Free Captains standingThe questline ends here.

The House Lorimer Yacht
Right away7At dawn, a gilded yacht flying the banner of House Lorimer sails up to Barter Rock to buy illegal forced labor for the family's crystal mines. Sturn hails you quietly across the water: "Her silver strongbox is right under the stern cabin. Attack her from windward while my gunboat pins her bow, and we split the loot fifty-fifty."

Splitting the Spoils
Right away8On the captured yacht's deck, Sturn pries open the House Lorimer strongbox and divides the silver into two equal piles. "A profitable morning, Captain—and I still have forty captives in my hold to sell to the next noble house." Half his gunboat crew are busy looting the yacht, leaving his slaver sloop lightly guarded.
- Take your half of the silver and a cannon from the yacht, and part ways with Sturn as allies. You shake Sturn's hand, hoist the yacht's best cannon onto your deck, and sail away with your share of the silver while Sturn heads south with his barred hold of captives.+90 silverWeapon: a random weapon+2 heat−1 The Crown standing−1 The Free Captains standingThe questline ends here.
