The Burned Caravan
Sail to The Burned Caravan (1–3 passages away)1 Inspect the latest timber caravan burned by Asta Ravenhame and pick up her pack's trail.
Three logging barges lie smoldering along a ridge, burned down to their frames. Strangely, the draft oxen were unhitched and spared before the fire was set. A lone teamster sits on a stump with his injured arm resting in a sling made from a clan scarf. High on the next ridge, three winged clan warbirds circle on the wind, watching your ship land.
- Question the surviving teamster about the attack."They dived out of the sun, ordered us off the barges, and burned the entire load of timber without taking a single plank," he tells you, holding up the clan scarf around his arm. "Their captain bandaged my arm herself and told me to find cleaner work." He pulls the timber merchants' written contract offer from his pocket and reads it to you.
- [Lupine] Have crewmate examine the ground around the burned barges.Crew: Lupinecrewmate paces the length of the ridge. "No one was killed here. They cut the draft teams loose and stood guard until the flames died down so the wildfire wouldn't spread across the hill. That's how you tend a funeral pyre, not a raid." crewmate plots the pack's flight path on your chart.Reveal 2 waypoints
- Loot the unburned lockboxes in the wreckage.Oddly for raiders, the raiders left the caravan's coin boxes untouched. Your crew pry out the surviving silver while the teamster reads you the timber merchants' escort offer.+20 silver
- Leave it for now.The teamster raises his good hand in farewell as you lift off, while the three warbirds on the ridge watch you in silence.
The Timber Merchants' Offer
Right away2The merchants' proposal is straightforward: they are sending one more timber caravan up the high road at dawn and need it to get through. You can fly alongside it as a Q-ship—with your gun ports hidden behind stacked bark—and ambush the pack when they strike. Or you can hunt Asta directly at her pack's roost on Ravenhame Crag, a short flight north, and take her nameboard from her hall.
- Escort the dawn caravan in disguise and ambush the raiders. The caravan master stacks bundles of bark along your rails to conceal your gun ports and pays you an advance on the escort fee.+20 silver
- Fly north to Ravenhame Crag to confront Asta at her roost. You leave the smoking barges behind and set course north. When you glance back at the ridge, the three watching warbirds have already vanished.
Out of the Sun
Right away3Just as the teamster described, three clan warbirds dive out of the glare in a silent line. The lead ship banks wide of your disguised broadside—already knowing your guns are there—and a woman's voice rings out across the wind: "Captain! I am Asta Ravenhame. Before you die defending that cargo, lift a tarpaulin and see what you're carrying!" Beside you, the caravan master frantically shouts for you to open fire.
- Open fire. You dump the bark stacks over the side and drop your gun ports as the warbird pack splits left and right to attack in waves.Battle: Clan warbird · Long rangeIf you win:+4 bolts
- Hold your fire and pull back a tarpaulin on the nearest barge. You signal your gunners to stand down and cross over to the nearest timber barge. The caravan master abruptly goes silent—the first sign that Asta is telling the truth.
Ravenhame Crag
Sail to Ravenhame Crag (1–3 passages away)4 Locate Asta Ravenhame's roost high on Ravenhame Crag.
The roost occupies a high stone shelf near the peak of the crag, holding three warbird perches and a slate-roofed longhall. Two warbirds rest on their perches while the third is away on patrol. Below the hall, an entire mountainside that should be forested has been clear-cut into hundreds of fresh stumps, each marked with a small memorial cairn. Above the longhall doorway hangs Asta's carved war-captain nameboard.
- Attack the roost immediately while the third warbird is away. The two grounded warbirds launch from their perches with startling speed, the lead ship trailing a war-captain's pennant.Battle: Clan warbird · Close rangeIf you win:+4 bolts
- Send a shore party up the crag after dark to steal the nameboard.Landfall: Ravenhame Crag
- Call out to the longhall openly and ask about the clear-cut mountainside.A tall Avian wearing a war-captain's streamer steps out onto the stone shelf alone. She eyes your gun ports calmly and answers your question.
- Leave it for now.You pull back behind the neighboring ridge as the third warbird returns to the roost at dusk.
The Nameboard
Right away5The heavy black-oak nameboard lies on your deck, carved deep with the Ravenhame crest and older than the ship that carried it. Asta Ravenhame sits against your rail with one wing bound to her side and her arm in splints. "The timber merchants only pay for the board," she says quietly. "They didn't put a price on my head—merchants prefer paying for a quiet road rather than a corpse."
- Deliver the nameboard to the timber merchants and collect the bounty. The merchants' agent at the logging camp inspects the carved board twice and pays your bounty in full without asking after Asta. Released on foot, Asta walks home across the valley—leaving the timber road quiet only until her wing heals.−1 The Clans standingThe questline ends here.
- Extort extra silver from the merchants' agent by threatening to expose the felled grave-trees to Guild inspectors. The agent pays the posted bounty—and then grudgingly pays a second purse when you describe the ancestral names carved into his timber and how eagerly Guild inspectors would fine him for desecration.+40 silver+1 heat−1 The Clans standingThe questline ends here.
- Return the nameboard to Asta and release her.She cradles the carved oak board across her knees. "Then the bounty stays posted, and another hunter will come." Even so, she orders her second-in-command to guide you to the elders of Ravenhame Crag to honor her debt.
Under the Tarpaulin
Right away6Beneath the canvas lie massive heartwood trunks as thick as ship masts. Carved by hand into the bark of every trunk is a person's name, a birth and death year, and a row of memorial notches. They are sacred clan grave-trees, felled from a three-hundred-year-old burial grove. The caravan master draws a pistol with a shaking hand, unsure who to aim at, while Asta's warbirds circle overhead waiting for your decision.
- Pull your ship back and let Asta's pack burn the stolen grave-trees.You swing your ship clear of the barges. Refusing to lose the cargo, the caravan's hired escort vessel pivots and brings her guns to bear on you.−1 The Guild standingBattle: Guild convoy · Close rangeIf you win:+20 silver
- Fulfill your bounty contract anyway and open fire on Asta's pack. You step back aboard your ship and drop your gun ports. Without wasting another word, Asta signals her pack to split left and right and attack.Battle: Clan warbird · Long rangeIf you win:+4 bolts

The Grave Grove
Right away7"Our clan plants a heartwood tree over the grave of every soul we bury," Asta tells you, pointing down at the hillside of stumps. "Three hundred years of Ravenhame ancestors rested on that slope. Then the Long Cut merchants bought a lowland court permit declaring our sacred grove ordinary timber, set up a heavy artillery battery we couldn't breach, and clear-cut the entire hill in a single summer. Burning those trunks on the road is the only funeral we can give our dead." She looks up at your gun deck. "A light warbird can't crack their artillery battery—but a warship like yours can."
- Ally with Asta and assault the merchants' artillery battery. The logging camp sits in the next valley—a sawpit, a bunkhouse, a stockade stacked high with ancestral trunks, and a dug-in artillery battery commanding the ridge above. While Asta's pack ties up the camp's armed escort ship, you move in on the battery.−1 The Guild standingBattle: an enemy · Long rangeIf you win:+25 silver
- Refuse her plea and attack her ship to claim the nameboard.Asta nods once, as if she expected nothing else from a bounty hunter, and walks unhurriedly back to her warbird.Battle: Clan warbird · Close rangeIf you win:+4 bolts
The Elders of the Crag
At a port8 Dock at the clan port to meet the elders of Ravenhame.
The elders of Ravenhame welcome you inside a great hall hung with the carved nameboards of every ship the crag has ever flown. Word of your deeds has already outrun your ship. The eldest speaks, her hands gnarled like tree roots: "The timber merchants offered silver. We have little coin, but Ravenhame pays its debts with everything we have."
- Request a rack of the clan's ancestral boarding cutlasses. The elders present you with a rack of keen boarding cutlasses bearing a century of battle notches—each blade carrying its own name, which your crew are expected to remember.Relic: Blooded Cutlasses+1 The Clans standingThe questline ends here.
