A Storm-Chaser's Logbook
Right away1In the wreckage you find a storm-chaser's logbook. Its final pages describe a heavy leadglass bottle lashed open atop a mountain spire to collect raw lightning over forty days. A margin note warns: "Forty days full. Cork it during an active thunderstorm, or the charge is lost."
- Plot the bearing to the bottling spire from the logbook.A map inside the cover gives the exact bearing to the spire not far away.
- [Lookout] Have your lookout cross-check the log's dates and chart the hazards ahead.Room: LookoutYour lookout calculates that the forty-day charging period ends this week and charts every sky hazard along the route from the logbook's notes.Reveal 3 waypoints
- Sell the logbook to another storm-chaser at the next port instead. (+20 silver)A storm-chaser at the next port buys the logbook for twenty silver without hesitation.+20 silverThe questline ends here.
The Final Entries
Right away2On the flight toward the spire, you read the rest of the logbook. Half the entries record a bitter dispute with the writer's former partner, "Y.", over who owns the storm bottle. The other half is a timing table counting the exact seconds between lightning strikes on the spire. You have time to study one section thoroughly before arriving.
- Read the partner dispute and check the unsent letter tucked in the back. The partner's name is Ysolt Marr, who captains a storm-chaser equipped with a long corking pole. Tucked into the back is an unsent apology letter to her, complete with a redeemable fifteen-silver draft.+15 silver
- Memorize the timing table counting the seconds between lightning strikes.Your crew drill the strike intervals until they know them cold: for seven breaths after a lightning bolt hits the copper stake, the spire is safe to climb; on the eighth breath, it strikes again.
The Bottling Spire
Sail to The Bottling Spire (2–4 passages away)3 Reach the mountain spire where the storm bottle is charging.
At the peak of the rock spire, a glowing leadglass bottle is lashed open to a copper lightning rod directly beneath a raging thunderhead. Its wired cork hangs beside it—and another storm-chaser ship is approaching from the south with a thirty-foot corking pole and retrieval net.
- Send a crewman up the spire to cork the bottle by hand between lightning strikes.
- Call out to the approaching storm-chaser ship and offer to split the prize using her corking pole. She pulls alongside in the lee of the spire and uses her thirty-foot insulated pole to cork and net the bottle safely from deck.
- [Avian] Send crewmate flying up to cork the bottle between lightning flashes.Crew: Aviancrewmate waits for a lightning flash, darts up on the wing to cork and net the bottle, and glides back to your deck before the next bolt falls.
- Attack the rival storm-chaser ship to claim the bottle for yourself. She hoists her battle pennant and opens her gun ports as lightning crackles around both hulls!Battle: Bounty hunters · ThunderstormIf you win:+25 silver
- Leave it for now.You pull back from the thunderhead for now while the bottle continues charging on the spire.
The Former Partner
Right away4The other captain shouts over the thunder as she hauls the flickering bottle aboard in her net: "Half of those forty days of storm-counting were mine! I brought the corking pole, and you brought the bearing and his logbook—so how do we split the prize?"
- Let her keep the Storm Bottle in exchange for sixty silver and her Grounding Rod.She pays you sixty silver in workshop drafts and unhooks the copper Grounding Rod from her belt. "Take this rod—never fly near a lightning spire without one."+60 silverDevice: Grounding RodThe questline ends here.

- Address Ysolt Marr by name, tell her of her partner's death, and hand over his unsent letter.Ysolt Marr reads the apology letter twice, then lowers the net holding the charged Storm Bottle and her Grounding Rod onto your deck. "He would have sold the bottle," she says quietly. "I only wanted to see it finished. Keep it—I'll keep his logbook."Device: Bottled StormDevice: Grounding RodThe questline ends here.
The Bottled Storm
Right away5The stoppered leadglass bottle is hot and unnaturally heavy, with a miniature thunderstorm churning and flashing inside the glass. The logbook lists a workshop that pays handsomely for a charged bottle.
- Keep the Storm Bottle and pry the copper Grounding Rod off the spire as well. You pack the single-use Storm Bottle beside your helm and pry the copper stake and cable free to serve as a Grounding Rod device for your ship.Device: Bottled StormDevice: Grounding RodThe questline ends here.
