Lot Thirty-One
At a port1 Reach the hold's dockside auction before the dead Warden's workbook is sold.
The estate auction is underway on the dock among the late Warden's old chairs and copper kettles. Lot thirty-one is a worn workbook whose margins are crammed with tiny compass bearings. Only one other bidder has noticed what it really is: a rival lord's household mage, who has ignored every other lot.
- Outbid the rival mage for the workbook. (40 silver)Costs 40 silverShe drops out at thirty-eight silver with a cold glare. Inside the workbook's margins, you find the compass bearing to the Warden's private practice tower along with the sequence to unseal its warded door.
- [Quartermaster] Have crewmate bid aggressively on the copper kettles to bluff the rival mage.Crew: Quartermastercrewmate drives up the bidding on the old kettles until the rival mage assumes the workbook is worthless, allowing crewmate to snag the book and a chair for just nine silver.−9 silver
- Let the rival mage win the auction, then shadow her ship to the tower. She buys the workbook and sets sail within the hour, with your ship shadowing her stern lanterns from a safe distance.
Notes in the Margins
Right away2Under your cabin lamp that night, you study the workbook. Alongside the compass bearing and the door-ward sequence, another entry repeats every few pages: "Wages owed to me by the hold, still unpaid"—followed by dates and sums spanning decades. Down on the dock below, the rival household mage is still pacing the pier, watching your ship.
- Copy down the tower's bearing and door-ward sequence, then set sail. You copy the coordinates and unsealing notes onto your chart; the practice tower lies close by.
- Total up the unpaid wage entries and study the rest of the margin notes first. The unpaid wages add up to eleven full years of a master Warden's salary—a debt the steward who auctioned off the book never noticed. Better yet, your lookout copies down the Warden's local wind charts from the back pages.Reveal 2 waypoints

You find the rival mage's yacht moored beside a lone crag tower. She stands at the tower door with the workbook open, unpicking the ancient door ward thread by thread. Spotting your ship, she doesn't pause her work—while her yacht's Casting Room lights up to drive you off.

The Warded Door
Sail to The Warden's Practice Tower (1–3 passages away)4 Fly to the dead Warden's practice tower and unseal its warded door.
The practice tower stands alone atop a wind-scoured crag. Across its stone doorway hums a self-sustaining ward that has held for twenty years. The workbook's margins explain how the Warden wove it—and, in smaller script, the exact sequence to unravel it safely.

The Carrier's Share
Right away6The door ward drops at dusk, and your crew helps carry the dead Warden's collection aboard her yacht: a humming auxiliary ward frame, a bronze ward-bell, and thirty years of dated spell journals. Once the last crate is loaded, the rival mage pauses at your rail. "My lord doesn't know what secrets are written in these journals either—and I will pay well for a captain who keeps quiet about what came out of this tower."
- Take a 70-silver hush fee and promise to say nothing. She hands over a heavy purse of seventy silver to buy your silence.+70 silverThe questline ends here.
