Shuttles for Hallow Keep

At the delivery port1
Deliver the fragile crate of whalebone loom shuttles.
Your buyer is a breathless loom hand from Hallow Keep waiting on the dock. He starts counting the whalebone shuttles before the crate lid is even off. "A fierce ley storm has parked right over Hallow Keep! The mana surges have shattered six loom shuttles in two days. If our wards fail, every corsair in the region will raid us before nightfall. Fly these shuttles up to the keep yourself, and our Warden will reward you well!"
  • Take the loom hand aboard and fly the shuttles up to Hallow Keep.
He climbs aboard at once, clutching the crate of shuttles on his knees the entire flight.
  • [Air mage] Ask how the ley storm is affecting the local air lanes.
    Crew: Air caster · Mage
crewmate questions the loom hand about the mana currents pulling through the weave, and crewmate plots the calmest approach lane to Hallow Keep on your chart.

One Cracked Shuttle

Right away2
An hour into the climb, the loom hand checks the crate again and goes pale. "There are twelve shuttles here, and one is cracked along the grain! A cracked shuttle will explode in a storm weave and rip the ward thread apart. I need all twelve intact!" He glances hopefully toward your ship's Ward Loom.
  • Lend him a spare shuttle from your own ship's Ward Loom.
He gratefully packs your spare shuttle alongside the eleven intact whalebone ones, promising to return it once Hallow Keep's wards are stabilized.
  • [Repair 2] Have crewmate drill and pin the cracked whalebone shuttle with brass.
    Crew: Repair 2+
crewmate drills a needle-fine channel through the whalebone and pins the split shut with a brass rod, restoring the shuttle to full strength while sharpening crewmate's repair skill.
    +1 Repair skill XP
  • Tell him eleven shuttles will have to be enough.
He nods grimly and clutches the crate tighter, then helps your lookout plot the local sky landmarks he passed on his way down from the keep.

Under the Ley Storm

Sail to Hallow Keep (2–3 passages away)3
Deliver the loom shuttles to Hallow Keep before its storm wards collapse.
A crackling ley storm churns directly above Hallow Keep like a second, blinding sky. As you approach, the keep's defensive wards flicker and fail layer by layer—and a corsair raider sloop is already swooping in toward the exposed loom tower from the far ridge!
  • Intercept and fight the corsair sloop to protect the loom tower.
The ley storm tugs violently at your own wards as you swing across the tower to engage the corsair sloop.

  • [Warden] Project your ship's wards over the tower while they restring their loom.
    Crew: Warden
crewmate holds a protective ward umbrella over the keep's loom tower against the raging ley storm for fifteen tense minutes. Once Hallow Keep's own wards blaze back up at full strength, the thwarted corsair sloop breaks off and flees.

  • Drop the shuttle crate at the keep gate and pull back out of the storm.
The loom hand sprints through the gate with the crate while you pull back to the edge of the ley storm to watch whether he makes it in time.
  • Stand off for now.
You hold position outside the storm's edge as the keep's wards sputter and fail.

The Warden of Hallow Keep

Right away4
Collect your reward from the Warden of Hallow Keep.
Hallow Keep's wards now hold steady at three full layers beneath the storm. The keep's Warden—a broad-shouldered woman with thread-burned hands—meets you in the courtyard. "You brought twelve whalebone shuttles, and I only needed eight to stabilize the weave. You can take the four spare storm-shuttles for your own Ward Loom, or have the steward pay you in silver."
  • Take the spare whalebone shuttles for your Ward Loom.
She fits the whalebone shuttles into your Ward Loom herself, permanently speeding up your ship's ward weaving.

  • [Ward Loom 2] Have her fit the whalebone shuttles and tune your upgraded loom frame.
    Ward Loom level 2+
Impressed by the size of your Ward Loom, she spends an hour fitting the whalebone shuttles, tuning your frame, and leaving five crystals from the keep's stores.

At the Storm's Edge

Right away5
Intercept the corsair sloop fleeing Hallow Keep with stolen ward thread.
Watching from a mile off, you see Hallow Keep's wards drop completely for one long minute—just long enough for the corsair sloop to swoop over the loom tower and snatch a cargo net full of plunder. As the keep's wards finally flicker back on, the heavily laden pirate sloop flees straight toward your position, dragging its loot net in tow.
  • Attack the fleeing corsair sloop and take back the plundered ward thread.
Weighed down by its heavy tow net and unwilling to cut the loot loose, the pirate sloop turns to fight.

  • [Gunner] Sever the sloop's tow line with a single precision shot.
