The Lamp-House

At the delivery port1
Deliver the crates of numbered leadglass panes.
Glassmaker Wen Tabor builds shielded lamp housings for the frontline; behind heavy leadglass, a flame can burn even in Hush-deadened air. She checks your cargo numbers.

"Panes seven and eight were fitted onto the lamp-tender Patient along with a full set of leadglass hull ribs," she says. "She was built to survive a week inside the Hush fog, but she's been missing for ten days. Meanwhile, I also have two crates of finished lamp housings waiting for delivery to the next station."
  • Search the Hush fog for the missing tender Patient.
She marks the tender's last known position on your chart. "If the ship is intact, tow her home. If she's wrecked, salvage her leadglass hull ribs."
  • Deliver the finished lamp housings to the frontline station first.
She packs two crates of fragile housings into your hold. "Take these to the lamp station at the next port—they've been relighting their beacons by hand in the dark all week."

The Tender Patient

Sail to The Tender Patient (1–3 passages away)2
Locate the missing lamp-tender Patient inside the Hush fog.
The Patient drifts in dead air with every leadglass lamp still burning brightly. Her eleven crewmen stand motionless at their stations with blank, open eyes—the Hush hollowed out their minds while leaving the ship untouched.

Through her open cargo hatch, you can see the numbered leadglass ribs bolted to her hull frames.
  • Board the drifting ship to unbolt her leadglass hull ribs.
Your crew lay a boarding plank across to her rail and grab her deck log first, gaining ten days of detailed navigation bearings through the Hush.

The Lamp Station

At the delivery port3
Deliver the leadglass lamp housings to the frontline station.
The station keeper's hands are blistered from relighting oil lamps in the dark. He installs the first leadglass housing immediately, watching the flame steady behind the thick glass.

"Wen sent one housing more than our rock requires," he says. "Either she miscounted, or she meant the spare for your ship."
  • Mount the spare Leadglass Lantern at your own masthead.
He helps your riggers mount the Leadglass Lantern at your masthead, where it stays lit even in dead Hush air. He also marks the last known heading of the missing tender Patient on your chart.
  • Have him mount the spare lamp on an outer rock to push back the darkness.
He mounts the extra lamp on the outermost rock at the edge of the Hush and pays you eight mana crystals. By the new light, he spots the burning lamps of the drifting Patient far inside the fog and marks her location on your chart.

Among the Hollowed Crew

Right away4
Eleven hollowed sailors stand frozen at their posts—the helmsman gripping the wheel, the cook holding a ladle.

By the steady light of her shielded lamps, you can see the leadglass ribs bolted to every hull frame. Loosening the bolts with a wrench will echo loudly through the quiet ship, risking waking the hollowed crew.
  • Send your crew in with wrenches to unbolt the leadglass ribs.
  • [Mundane] Send crewmate aboard alone so the Hush-struck crew won't sense any mana.
    Crew: Mundane
Blind to anyone without mana, the hollowed sailors ignore crewmate completely. crewmate unbolts the Leadglass Ribs one by one and brings back three alchemy flasks from the deck rack.

  • Hang your Leadglass Lantern at the gangplank to calm the hollowed crew while you unbolt the ribs.
Drawn by the warm glow of your Leadglass Lantern, the hollowed sailors watch peacefully while your crew unbolt the ribs. As you finish, a rigger follows the lantern across the plank onto your ship—and by morning, she remembers her own name and joins your crew.

The Patient Returns

Right away5
You tow the Patient back to the lamp-house dock with her lamps still burning and her hollowed crew still standing at their posts. Wen Tabor covers her mouth in shock.

"Her shielding held for ten days in the Hush," she whispers. "I'll care for her crew indoors. I don't have much coin, Captain—tell me how we can repay you."
  • Have her moor the Patient at the edge of the Hush to push back the front.
Anchored at the edge of the fog, the Patient's shielded lamps drive back the Hush front, and Wen Tabor pays you fifty silver for bringing the ship home.
