The Boiler Shop

At the delivery port1
Deliver the kegs of gnomish rivets.
You deliver the rivet kegs to a foundry boiler shop, where gnome foreman Dabb Tinsel has invented a rapid-fire machine that drives five hull rivets in a single stroke. The foundry owner wants you to ship the machine to the Crown shipyards—but Dabb grabs your sleeve in secret. "I built that machine on my own time! Smuggle it in pieces to my sister Nell's workshop in the next region, and she'll turn it into a rapid-fire deck gun for your ship."
  • Accept the foundry owner's legal contract to deliver the machine to the Crown shipyard.
The foundry clerk signs you onto a well-paid shipping contract while Dabb watches in grim silence as the crated machine is loaded aboard.
    New job: The riveting engine
  • Help Dabb smuggle the disassembled machine to his sister under coal sacks.
Dabb strips his machine down in an hour and hides the parts inside coal sacks. By morning, when the foundry owner discovers the empty workbench, your ship is already gone.

Missing the Key Part

At the delivery port2
Deliver the crated riveting machine to the Crown shipyard in the next region.
Two days out of port, your crew found a note tucked inside the machine's hopper from Dabb Tinsel: "I sent the steel feed pawl ahead to my sister Nell's shop behind the Crown shipyard. Without it, the five hammers won't fire a single rivet. The machine is mine." Now you've docked at the Crown yard, and the receiving clerk is waiting to inspect a working machine.
  • Hide the note and slip away to Nell Tinsel's workshop to get the missing part.
You tell the clerk you need to unbolt the travel braces before inspection, then hurry two streets behind the shipyard wall to find Tinsel's workshop.
  • Hand Dabb's note over to the Crown receiving clerk.
The clerk reads the note and flushes with anger. "Withholding parts from a signed Crown contract is theft! Wait here, captain—I'll log your honesty and fetch the yard enforcer."

The Sister's Workshop

At the delivery port3
Deliver the smuggled machine parts to Nell Tinsel in the next region.
Nell Tinsel spreads her brother's smuggled machine parts across her workbench and grins. "Dabb thought he built a riveting tool, but this is a five-barrel deck gun waiting to happen. Give me until tomorrow morning." Outside, however, an armed cutter wearing the foundry owner's colors has just docked and is questioning the harbor guard about a ship carrying coal sacks.
  • Stand guard and fight off the foundry owner's cutter while Nell works.

Tinsel's Workshop

Right away4
Dabb's sister, Nell Tinsel, holds up the missing feed pawl on her workbench—a hooked steel piece no longer than a finger. "Dabb built that machine at night using his own coal, and the foundry owner is stealing the credit and the Crown payout. I'll sell you this pawl for twenty-five silver so you can finish your delivery—or strip the hopper and hammers out of that crate tonight, bring them to me, and I'll build you a rapid-fire rivet cannon."
  • Pay her 25 silver for the feed pawl so you can complete the Crown delivery.
    Costs 25 silver
She wraps the steel pawl in an oily rag and pockets your silver. "At least tell the yard master that Dabb Tinsel built it."
  • Promise to get Dabb Tinsel officially credited as the inventor if she gives you the pawl.
She studies your face for a long moment, then presses the steel pawl into your palm. "I'll know if his name isn't on the yard register."
  • Warn her that the Crown enforcer is two streets away coming to arrest her.
She slams her shutters closed and shoves the steel pawl into your hand. "Deliver the part yourself so the enforcer finds nothing on my bench!" Grateful for the warning, she slides a keg of rivets across the counter. "Just make sure the yard master knows Dabb built it."

The Yard Enforcer

Right away5
The clerk returns with the shipyard's chief enforcer, a burly woman carrying a warrant book. "Tinsel's workshop—I know the place. I'll have that missing feed pawl by noon and lock the gnome in the yard brig. Take your ship around to the main slip and wait, captain." She sets off down the main street at a slow, heavy march.
  • Wait at the shipyard while the enforcer arrests Nell and seizes the part.
By noon, the enforcer delivers the confiscated feed pawl to the yard master, and Nell Tinsel's workshop has a Crown seizure warrant nailed to its door.
  • Cut through the back alleys to warn Nell Tinsel before the enforcer arrives.
You sprint through the narrow back alleys while the heavy-footed enforcer marches down the main street.

The Second Night

Right away6
One night wasn't enough to finish the conversion. By the second evening behind locked shutters, Nell's forge fire is dying down. "Drawing five gun barrels takes steady high heat, and I'm out of foundry coke," she says. "Two jars of sky-crystal or a fire mage could keep the forge hot—otherwise I'll have to burn my own shop furniture and hope the barrels don't warp."
  • Feed her forge 2 crystal so she can forge the barrels and extra ammo.
    Costs 2 crystal
The crystal-fed forge roars white-hot. Nell draws five flawless barrels before dawn and stamps the leftover steel into six rounds of ammo for your lockers.

The Foundry Agent's Dilemma

Right away7
The foundry agent dumps one of the coal sacks onto his cutter's deck and stares helplessly at a hundred loose gears and springs. "None of my crew knows how to reassemble this thing," he admits. "You watched Dabb strip it down. Help us put it back together on the run to the Crown shipyard an hour up the coast, and the yard master will reward you himself."
  • Sail with them and help your crew reassemble the machine using Dabb's chalk marks.
Following Dabb's chalk marks, your crew reassembles the machine inside the cutter's hold and crates it up just as you reach the Crown shipyard.
  • [Gnome] Have crewmate reassemble the machine and charge the agent a 30-silver engineer's fee.

crewmate reassembles and crates the entire machine by nightfall, charging the desperate agent thirty silver for the skilled labor.

The Crown Plate Yard

Right away8
The yard master uncrates the complete machine and tests it on a scrap plate—driving five red-hot rivets in a single thunderous blow. Delighted, he turns to you. "The foundry covers your shipping fee, captain, but my yard crews are idle between ships right now. How can we repay you for bringing this in intact?"

The Rivet Storm

Right away9
Collect the finished weapon from Nell Tinsel.
By morning, a squat, five-barreled cannon with a top-mounted ammo hopper sits oiled and ready on Nell's workbench. She turns the crank once, punching five red-hot rivets straight into the back wall. "It won't sink a hull in one hit, but it'll shred any crew on deck. Take the Rivet Storm cannon for your ship—or let me keep the gun for Dabb, and I'll mount his rapid-feed ammo hopper on your existing Battery Deck plus pay you forty silver."
  • Mount the five-barreled Rivet Storm cannon on your ship.
Bolted to your gun deck by noon, the Gnomish Rivet Storm unleashes five-rivet salvos with a roar like a collapsing foundry.
