The Snowed-In Lodge
Sail to Cold Shoulder Lodge (2–5 passages away)1 Excavate the snow-buried hunting lodge on Cold Shoulder Ridge.
Only the stone chimney and a single roof gable poke above a twenty-foot snowdrift. Deep beneath the packed snow, something heavy shifts its weight inside the buried lodge, making the roof timbers groan.
- Dig a trench down to the front door and fight whatever is lairing inside.Landfall: Cold Shoulder Lodge
- [Emberkin] Have crewmate melt a tunnel through the back snowdrift straight into the trophy room.Crew: Emberkincrewmate radiates steady heat for an hour, melting a tunnel straight through the back wall into the trophy room so you bypass the beast lurking in the front hall—though the freezing meltwater leaves your volunteer chilled and bruised.20 damage to the crewmate who acted
- Leave it for now. After forty winters under the snow, the buried lodge will keep another week.
The Buried Larder
Right away2Adjoining the trophy room is the lodge's winter storehouse, sealed for forty years: racks of greased ballista bolts, cured meat dried hard as leather, and casks of mountain spirits. Overhead, however, the main roof beam is bowed like a drawn bow under twenty tons of snow, sifting white powder down with every step you take. The ceiling will not hold for long.
- Leave the heavy stores untouched and step lightly straight into the trophy room.Treading carefully beneath the groaning roof beam, you pass straight through to the hunt-master's trophy wall.
- Haul the bolts and provisions up the shaft first and hope the bowed roof beam holds!
- [Repair 2] Have crewmate shore up the bowed roof beam with spare spars before looting the stores.Crew: Repair 2+crewmate wedges two stout timber spars beneath the sagging main beam and hammers them tight. The snow stops sifting down, allowing your crew to haul up the five ballista bolts and three crates of provisions with time to spare.+5 bolts+3 provisions
The Trophy Wall
Right away3 Choose what to salvage from the dead hunt-master's trophy wall.
Frozen in his armchair sits the long-dead hunt-master with a clan blanket draped across his knees and a cord-bound hunting journal in his lap. On the wall behind him hang a heavy siege ballista, a wyrm-hide war drum, and a silver-banded horn. With the roof beams groaning under the snowdrift, an unbraced ceiling will only allow time for a single load.
- Dismantle and haul up the heavy ballista and its bolt case.Your crew unhooks the heavy ballista in three pieces along with five bolts; preserved by the cold, its torsion cord is still tight.Weapon: Heavy Ballista+5 boltsThe questline ends here.
- Take the wyrm-hide war drum and the silver-banded horn. You haul up the crew-rallying war drum along with thirty silver worth of silver banding from the horn.Fitting: War Drum+30 silverThe questline ends here.
- [Lupine] Have crewmate carry the dead hunt-master up to the ridge for a traditional sky-burial.Crew: Lupinecrewmate carries the fallen hunt-master up the shaft and lays him atop the high ridge for the wind and sky, as lupine custom demands. When his grateful kin hear of it, they excavate the lodge themselves and send you the heavy ballista and forty silver. The questline ends here.
- With the main beam shored up, make two trips to haul up both the ballista and the war drum!Your timber braces hold the roof solid, allowing your crew to haul up both the heavy ballista and the wyrm-hide war drum while leaving the hunting horn resting respectfully in the old master's hand.Weapon: Heavy BallistaFitting: War DrumThe questline ends here.
- Leave his weapons untouched and take only his hunting journal to return to his clan. The cord-bound journal charts forty-year-old migration routes across the sky, and its front page names his clan hall—any port clan agent will know his kin.Reveal 2 waypoints
The Hunt-Master's Kin
At a port4 Return the hunt-master's journal to a clan agent at port.
A gray-furred lupine clan agent reads the first page of the journal and sits down heavily. "Forty winters lost—this was my grandmother's brother." By evening, six of his kin have gathered on the dock with shovels and a sled to bring his body out for a proper sky-burial. They ask what reward you wish for finding his grave and leaving it unrobbed.
- Ask for the heavy ballista hanging on his lodge wall. His kin excavate the lodge themselves and deliver the heavy ballista, five bolts, and an extra forty-silver reward to your deck. The questline ends here.
- Ask if one of his sharpshooter kin wants to join your crew. The hunt-master's grand-niece steps forward at once—an eagle-eyed lupine gunner who shoots just as true as the journal says he did—bringing thirty silver from the family.New crewmate: Lupine, Gunner+30 silver+2 The Clans standingThe questline ends here.
- Ask for nothing. The clan agent inscribes your ship's name on the final page of the hunt-master's journal in lasting honor, and his kin load five crates of provisions into your hold.+5 provisions+3 The Clans standingThe questline ends here.
Cave-In!
Right away5Tons of snow pour through the doorway! Through the swirling whiteout you glimpse the long-dead hunt-master seated in his chair under a clan blanket, with his prized gear hanging on the wall behind him: a heavy ballista, a wyrm-hide war drum, and a silver-banded hunting horn. The wall pegs are two strides away; the escape shaft is ten strides behind you!
- Snatch the silver-banded horn off the nearest peg and sprint for the shaft! You yank the silver-banded horn free just as the snow buries the room, escaping with fifty silver worth of fine metalwork.+50 silverThe questline ends here.
- Risk the collapsing roof to grab the wyrm-hide war drum!
- Leave the loot and get every crew member up the escape shaft immediately!Your last sailor scrambles out of the shaft just as the gable collapses completely, giving the old hunt-master a proper burial untouched by looters—an act of respect the Highwild clans warmly honor.+1 The Clans standingThe questline ends here.
